I remember years ago at the very beginning of ministry. I had just come out of a season of struggle and was starting to see a little blessing. For the first time, I had more than a hundred dollars left after bills. One day, while sitting at my desk, the Holy Spirit whispered to me: “I want you to give $1,000 to the ministry.” At that time, all we had was a little Café feeding the homeless on Saturdays — no church, no houses, no shelter programs. At first, I thought, “That can’t be God.” But the voice didn’t leave me.
So, I obeyed. I walked downtown, withdrew the money, and gave it. I went back to work, sat at my desk, and opened my email. Right there, a client had placed a $100,000 order — ten times more than I had given. That was the first step in learning how powerful it is to trust God with money. Looking back, I believe that moment of obedience opened the door for everything we see now — the houses, the shelter, the church. Faithfulness with money set the stage for God to multiply.
Here are ten reasons why giving is so powerful:
Malachi 3:10 says, “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.” When we give, we ensure that the work of God is supplied and resourced. That $1,000 I gave years ago may have felt small compared to the needs of a city, but it was seed into God’s house that has since multiplied into ministries feeding, housing, and restoring people’s lives.
When we release what we could keep, we declare, “God, You are my source.” Proverbs 3:9–10 teaches us to honor the Lord with our wealth, and He will fill our barns with plenty. My natural mind said, “Hold on to the money.” But obedience proved my trust in God, and He immediately showed He could be trusted to provide.
If I keep everything, I leave no room for God to bless me. But when I give, I create an empty space only He can fill. Luke 6:38 promises, “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over.” That first step of giving created a margin where God poured in far more than I could have imagined.
Deuteronomy 8:18 says, “Remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the power to get wealth.” Too often we think our job, our talent, or our effort is our source. But when we give, we are reminded that everything flows from His hand. My career didn’t give me the $100,000 order — God did.
Matthew 6:21 says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Money by itself is temporary, but when we give into the Kingdom, it becomes eternal. That first gift didn’t just pay a bill — it connected my finances to God’s mission to feed the hungry and reach the lost.
Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” My job was just a way to earn money — until giving turned it into a tool for the Kingdom. Suddenly, my career was no longer just about sales, it was about souls.
Paul said in 2 Corinthians 9:10, “Now He who supplies seed to the sower… will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.” Money spent is gone, but money sown grows. That $1,000 became seed that produced a harvest far greater than the amount I put in the ground.
Jesus said in Matthew 6:24, “You cannot serve both God and money.” Giving dethrones money from being my master. Every time I give, greed loses its grip, and my reliance shifts from self to God.
The world says, “Keep more, and you’ll have more.” God’s Kingdom says, “Give more, and you’ll reap more.” (2 Corinthians 9:6). That first act of obedience taught me that God’s math is different — one seed can produce a hundredfold.
Ephesians 3:20 says God can do “exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.” That’s what happened when I gave. I didn’t ask for a $100,000 order. I didn’t even imagine it. But giving positioned me under the flow of God’s abundance.
That first gift was just the beginning. Since then, I’ve seen miracle after miracle — but it all started with one simple act of obedience. I believe we would not be where we are today as a ministry if I hadn’t obeyed then. Giving is not about losing — it’s about unlocking God’s multiplication.
